New Albany’s Success Linked to Broadband
Plans to expand Ohio’s broadband access drew support from Central Ohio economic development experts and business leaders, ranging from the Columbus Partnership to New Albany’s Bluemile, a fiber network, colocation and cloud computing company in a recent Columbus Dispatch article.
Gov. John Kasich announced plans to boost the broadband system’s speed from 10 gigabits per second to 100 gigabits per second during this week’s State of the State address.
The upgraded fiber optic network demonstrates “great foresight to realize that expandable, high-availability, low-cost bandwidth is vital to business,” says Michael Marlowe, president and co-founder of Bluemile, recently ranked the nation’s 16th fastest growing telecommunications company by Inc. magazine.
New Albany’s broadband network was “crucial” in the city’s unprecedented success in bringing more than 3,500 new jobs to the city in the last three years, notes Scott McAfee, public information officer for the city.
